Twenty-five people braved the cold temperatures and wind in the early morning of October 2 for the first annual Miles for Medals Walk at Corning East High School. Sponsored by Merrill Lynch and Wegmans Food Markets the walkers were successful in raising $2500 for Special Olympics Genesee Region. Four teams of walkers participated including 3 Special Olympics teams. The teams and their results were:
• Steuben ARC led by Marion Houck raised $142
• SCT BOCES/Elsmere Eagles led by Carol Earl raised $883
• Corning All Stars led by David Gronemus raised $240
• Pi Nu Epsilon led by Heather Sager raised $701.10
The top fundraiser from the event was Heather Sager who raised $521. Top Team was Carol Earl's SCT BOCES team who raised $883. Athlete Michael Golotty was the top Special Olympics Athlete fundraiser by bringing in $200.
The route was a 2.5 mile route which started and ended at Corning East High School.
