Approximately 250 athletes representing 15 teams competed in the Regional Soccer Event at the Total Sports Experience in Gates. Volunteers from Fairport Interact, St. Joseph’s Villa, Fairport Women’s Varsity Soccer (directed by Molly McCarthy) Aquinas High School Men’s Soccer (directed by Mike Mirrabella) and St. John Fisher College volunteered at the event. Highlight of the event in addition to the performances of the athletes was the appearance of Soccer Sam as emcee of the event.Competition included skills and outdoor play. Members of the staff of total sports experience, Warren Rayner, Facility Director and Ryan Morgan helped Steve Fuller with the components of the event. Gallina Development Corp. and Andy Gallina were recognized for their efforts in hosting the event. Lunches for athletes were donated by Bill Gray’s Restaurants. Medical Coordinators were Werner Schmidtmann and Ann Marron. Soccer Skills were led by coach Linda Steinmetz. The event coordinator was Jerry Crowell from CDS. According to Jerry,” Competition was the best ever. The teams and athletes adapted to the weather changes and enjoyed playing outdoor soccer.Results of the competition were:
