Special Olympics athletes from the Genesee Region were among the 1,100 athletes and coaches who participated in the 2004 Fall Games. The games were held from October 8 – 10 at the New York Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls. Athletes participated in ten events including bocce, cross country running, cycling, equestrian, soccer skills, soccer team, golf, roller skating, softball skills and softball team.Some outstanding performances by athletes from the Genesee Region were:
William Jackson placed first in the 3K cross country running as the only participant from the Genesee region.
Jason Baker and Darrin Greenfield members of the Genesee CSS doubles team placed first in division one bocce.
Wendy Halstead placed first in division one English Equitation and division one Working Trails English.
Catherine Hurd placed first in Division two soccer skills.
Nine members of the Genesee Express placed first in division two team soccer.
Alex Holbrook placed first and Brett Newman placed second in division one Golf-Level III Individual Play - 9 Holes.
David Galunke Jr. and his father David Galunke placed second in Golf-Level II Alternate Shot Team Play
Delmar Simms, Wendy Parson and Shakir Dade each won 3 gold medals for roller skating in their perspective divisions.
Kimberly Ann Akins placed first in division one softball skills.
Competition was at its best for all athletes, smiles they wore at the end of the day gave testimony to the outstanding results.
