Polar Plunge




IT'S POLAR PLUNGE TIME AGAIN!!
Save the Date: Sunday, February 10, 2008 at Charlotte Beach
The 8th Annual LETR Polar Plunge for Rochester will be the biggest and best. In the last Polar Plunge, over 600 wacky plungers braved the icy cold waters of Lake Ontario and raised over $95,000 to support the 3200 Special Olympics athletes who live in the 11-County Genesee Region. Come make this year better than ever!
New this year: Thanks to our wonderful sponsors at WBEE 92.5 radio, the school who raises the most money will win the title of "Cool School" and will win an all-expense paid concert by a national recording artist at your school!

Good Luck Naim and Eric!














GOOD LUCK, ERIC BYRD AND NAIM LEWIS!!

Eric and Naim will represent TEAM USA at the Special Olympics World Games in Shanghai, China, October 2 - 11. Eric will be competing in aquatics and Naim in bowling. 30 Special Olympics athletes will compete from New York State in the first Special Olympics World Games competition to be held in Asia.

Bocce Bash to benefit Special Olympics

September 8th 2007: Bocce, Wine, Food & Soccer
Hosted by the Rochester Rhinos at PAETEC Park
11:00 AM – 4:00 PM Bocce Bash hosted by the Rochester Rhinos at PAETEC Park
4:30 PM – 6:30PM Post Bocce Bash Party at PAETEC Park
7:35 PM – 9:30PM Rochester Rhinos vs. Montreal Impact at PAETEC Park

Rochester Rhinos Partnership:
Our partnership with the Rochester Rhinos includes a matching donation to the first 50 Bocce Teams and the first 10 Bocce Court Sponsors. Once a team registers for the Bocce Bash, the Rochester Rhinos will supply that team with $600 worth of seats for the September 8th Soccer Match / Post Bocce Bash Party. Teams will be able to sell the 100 seats at $6 and raise the money needed to participate in the Bocce Bash. The teams will also be able to solicit
pledges/donations on-line and in person and give out the Rhinos soccer tickets as “Thank You’s”. Two Special Olympic soccer teams will be featured during the Half Time Fantasy game.

Fundraising Goal!!!
Register on-line! It’s simple and convenient. Go to www.firstgiving.com/boccebash and click register! When you register on-line you and your teammates will also create your own fund raising WebPages. Then email your family, friends and business acquaintances all over the United States. By registering to play in the Bocce Bash, each player agrees to raise at least $150 ($600 per team). Bocce players can pay the full amount themselves or seek contributions from supporters.

Join us for Spikes' Hike 2007, a walk to benefit the 3200+ Special Olympics Athletes of the Genesee Region. Spikes' Hike is unique in offering a 50/50 Not-for-Profit revenue share with other 501c3 organizations, or groups associated with schools or churches. Walkers will receive breakfast and lunch, and if they raise at least $50, a Special Olympics T-Shirt!

Julie Nichols Honored


Athlete Julie Nichols Honored by Hornell Knights of Columbus

On March 31, 2007 the 34th annual Hornell Knights of Columbus Sports Night honored Julie Nichols, a Genesee Region athlete. Also honored at this dinner were, Gerry Coony a former boxer, Steve Garvey a former Baseball star, Ryan Lindell from the
Buffalo Bills and former pro wrestler Lanny Poffo.

Julie is a 20 year old Avoca student who attends the GST BOCES program at Alfred University. Julie began her career as a Special Olympics athlete while in Elementary School. She began by competing in Track and Field events. Julie continued her career by competing in Cross Country skiing and soccer events. Most recently, Julie completed in the State Summer Games in Albany last June. She received Gold and a Silver medal in bowling events. Julie is a hard working student who is currently employed by AVI food service at Alfred University. Her job duties include preparing and filling the salad bar at Powell dining hall during the busy lunch shift.
