Hello again friends. Last week we welcomed you to the new and improved Genesee Region Program Report and we will continue to provide you with the most up do date information regarding Genesee Region Special Olympics. The format will remain the same, however the content will change from week to week so keep your eyes peeled for updates and other important information.

 

Updates for this week include information regarding our CYR Athletes Awards Dinner, a Special Olympics New York Art Contest and new information on the Genesee Region Polar Plunge.

 

There has been a slight change to the order of the sessions at the winter sports conference, so be sure to check that out.

 

We have also included some very important information regarding upcoming training club meetings.

Cyr Athletes Awards Dinner

 

CYR ATHLETE AWARD DINNER AND DANCE

Please join us on Saturday, November 22nd for our Annual CYR Athlete Award, Dinner and Dance. This year we are excited to announce a fantastic new location for the event and we hope that you can all join us.  We hope to see as many of our Athletes and Coaches there as possible.

 

Included in this fantastic evening:

· CYR Athlete Awards for all of our 2009 CYR Athletes
· Dinner Buffet
· Lots of Dancing and Music
· Raffle

 

How do we Register?
 

· Each attending Training Club receives 3 complimentary tickets. This covers the cost of the CYR athlete and two other people. The club may use the tickets to lower the price for everyone attending if they wish.

· Regular tickets cost $10 per person.  Example ABC Training Club brings 10 people total- the cost would be $70

· Please e-mail Robin Mitchell by Friday, November 7th the total number of people attending from your training club.

· The balance is due by Friday, November 14th. Checks should be made payable to Special Olympics NY-Genesee Region.

Upcoming Competitions

 

BowlingRegion North Junior and Senior Bowling Competition

 

The Region North Junior Bowling Competition will be held on Friday November 21st at Clover Lanes in Brighton. The day will broken down as follows:

 

Volunteers will arrive between 9:15-9:45am

Athletes will arrive between 9:30-10:00am

Opening Ceremonies at 10:00am

Bowling from 10:15am-12:30pm

Awards will be handed out as lanes finish

 

The Region North Senior Bowling Competition will be held on Saturday November 22nd and will also be held at Clover Lanes in Brighton. The day will be broken down as follows:

 

Session 1

Volunteers will arrive between 7:15-8:00am

Athletes will arrive between 8:00-8:15am

Opening Ceremonies 8:15-8:30am

First Session Bowling 8:30-11:00am

 

Session 2

Volunteers will arrive between 10:45-11:00am

Athletes will arrive between 11:00-11:15am

Second Session Bowling 11:30am-2:00pm

 

Session 3

Volunteers will arrive between 1:45-2:00pm

Athletes will arrive between 2:00-2:15pm

Third Session Bowling 2:15-4:45pm

Ice Skating                                                                                Figure Skating

 

Ice Skating Skills, Speed and Figure Skating training for the winter season will be held at the Skating Institute of Rochester in Corn Hill beginning October 19th, 2008 and will continue on the following dates:

 

October: 19, 26

November: 2, 9, 16, 23

December: 7, 14, 21

 

Training Sessions will run from 4:30-5:30pm

(Please arrive at 4:00 to leave enough time for athletes to put on their skates. Skates WILL be provided for athletes)

Join the youngest members of the Special Olympics New York family in our new Young Athletes Program.  Young Athletes is for children ages two to seven.  This fun, participation-based program teaches eye-hand coordination and motor skills through games and group activities.  For more information and for a list of locations around the region, please email Rob Mitchell at rmitchell@nyso.org.

As part of our continued commitment to improving Program we will now be conducting individual training club meetings. We will only be meeting with clubs that participate in the upcoming sports season so if you are doing a winter sport we will be scheduling to meet with you over the next few weeks. During the meeting the head coach/coaches will meet with one of our program team and will complete the following:
 
Rosters for the forthcoming season.

Medical and Consent Form needs.

 

Training Club issues (things that we can do to improve your Special Olympics experience)

Red Cross First Aid Training for all coaches in attendance. The culmination of this 3 hour course will include a test. The aim is to have as many coaches First Aid certified as possible by the days conclusion.Time:
