Registrations for Fall State Games are due back in the office by Tuesday morning on September 8, 2009. Head coaches should have received an email from Rob containing all State Games information. If you have not received the email please contact the office immediately. Registrations are due THIS FRIDAY, September 4, 2009 for The Upstate Fall Classic. Registrations are due NEXT FRIDAY, September 11, 2009 for The Regional Golf Invitational. Online File Folder Please remember to check the Online File Folder for updated SO Registration Forms and Event Flyers. It has been updated to include Event Flyers threw September as well as SO Registration forms The user-name and password are located in the "Online File Folder" article block located below. *Those of you who have experienced difficulty downloading files from the Online File Folder, please try this next time: Once logged in double-click each folder that you intend to open, after you have located the correct document... right-click on the file and select the "download file" option (You may have to temporarily allow your computer to allow downloads). Once downloaded, you can type all of your information into the document and send it to me problem free. On the other hand, if you double-click the file you wish to download, you will be directed to the file folder home page (This is an undesirable outcome). LETR Officers and several local Applebee's will team up again this fall to help raise money for Special Olympics New York. The date is Wednesday, October 28, 2009. (Note this date correction. It was previously listed as Thursday, October 29, 2009). One of the goals for this particular initiative is to have athlete representation at each Applebee's location. If any of our clubs have athletes that live near an Applebee's or might be interested in being a part of this please contact me. (The night would basically consist of greeting customers as they walk in the door and thanking them as they leave. Sort of like a "guest host/hostess"). Eunice Shriver Several of you have expressed interest in sending sympathy cards or letters to the Shriver family. If there are any coaches or athletes that would like to do so, letters can be given to us here in the Regional Office and we will forward them to the Shriver Family. As usual, if you have any questions feel free to contact me using the information provided at the bottom of this report. This is a fun, participation-based program that teaches eye-hand coordination and motor skills through games and group activities. The Young Athletes program introduces children with intellectual disabilities and their families to the world of Special Olympics by pursuing the following goals: - Engage children with intellectual disabilities through developmentally appropriate play activities designed to foster physical, cognitive, and social development.
- Welcome family members of children with intellectual disabilities to the Special Olympics network of support.
- Raise awareness about the abilities of children with intellectual disabilities through inclusive peer participation, demonstrations and other events.
This is a versatile program that can work in various learning situations. The program is designed to be simple enough for families to use at home with their child. It is also appropriate for preschools, schools, playgroups and recreation programs to use with small groups of young children. The program includes several resources to get started including a Young Athletes Activities Guide, a Training DVD, Young Athletes Equipment Kit and and website for further resources, materials and information. For more information on how to get started or a list of locations already participating around the region please email Rob Mitchell at rmitchell@nyso.org. | | | | "Let me win.
