| Special Olympics New York | | Genesee Region Program Report October 19, 2009 | | | | | | | | Dear Darcie, | | Hello again friends. Welcome to The Genesee Region Program Report. Date Correction: I apologize, there was a misprint in last weeks Program Report (October 15, 2009). The dates for Region North Bowling were INCORRECT. The CORRECT dates are Friday November 20th and Saturday November 21st. I have updated the "Upcoming Events" block below to reflect these changes and have also provided the registration times for each of the (3) sessions on Saturday. Event Flyers and Event Registration Forms for this event can be found in the Online File Folder. (For instructions on using the Online File Folder, please refer to the article block below). Again, my apologies for the misunderstanding. Bowl-A-Thon Special Olympics New York, Genesee Region will be hosting a Bowl-A-Thon fundraiser at Clover Lanes on Saturday, November 7, 2009 from 1:00 until 4:00pm. The event is open to everyone and we would love to have the support of our coaches and athletes. In order to register you must create a "fundraising team" of up to (6) individuals. Each team is responsible for raising a minimum of $250 dollars. (You can have as many people as you would like raising money, unfortunately we are only allowed 6 on each lane for the event). In return, each team will be given their own lane during the bowl-a-thon and will receive unlimited bowling, unlimited food and drink, music, a raffle, prize give-away's and awards. This is a fun, participation-based program that teaches eye-hand coordination and motor skills through games and group activities. The Young Athletes program introduces children with intellectual disabilities and their families to the world of Special Olympics by pursuing the following goals: - Engage children with intellectual disabilities through developmentally appropriate play activities designed to foster physical, cognitive, and social development.
- Welcome family members of children with intellectual disabilities to the Special Olympics network of support.
- Raise awareness about the abilities of children with intellectual disabilities through inclusive peer participation, demonstrations and other events.
This is a versatile program that can work in various learning situations. The program is designed to be simple enough for families to use at home with their child. It is also appropriate for preschools, schools, playgroups and recreation programs to use with small groups of young children. The program includes several resources to get started including a Young Athletes Activities Guide, a Training DVD, Young Athletes Equipment Kit and and website for further resources, materials and information. For more information on how to get started or a list of locations already participating around the region please email Rob Mitchell at rmitchell@nyso.org. | | | | "Let me win.
