Law Enforcement Torch Run, June 6th, Rochester

Join us at the Liberty Pole at noon on June 6th as the Torch Run comes to Rochester. We would like athletes and coaches there to represent the Genesee Region. Similar to year’s past, athletes meet at the old church a block from the Liberty Pole at 11:00am (call the office for exact directions). New this year to the torch run, participating athletes are receiving a Torch Run t-shirt from Special Olympics. This year only the shirts are free of charge. If you have athletes interested, we need names and sizes in the office no later than noon on Thursday, the 29th. If you do not get your information in by then; we may not be able to provide shirts to all athletes. Please contact Melissa Wiggins if you have any questions at 585-586-7400 x105 or email at mwiggins@nyso.org.

Thanks, we look forward to having you!

State Games Information needed!

A gentle reminder to the coaches that have not sent this in:

  • Please fax your room assignment lists to the office ASAP at 585-586-7065.

Thanks for your help with this information.

More details to come….

A friendly reminder….

For any coaches that may need to use a Special Olympics vehicle, like the green van to transport your athletes (aka Big Green) we will need an updated photocopy of your driver’s license for our records and insurance purposes. This needs to be done in advance of the next time you use Big Green and the copy will remain on file in our office. We need to log each use to keep on file, too. Please coordinate usage ahead of time, because we currently have the seats out to transport equipment to events. Thanks!

Spike’s Hike 2008 – A huge success!

Spike’s Hike was a HUGE success, thanks to the 350 walkers who participated, raising over $65,000 for Special Olympics. The top team was the Assisi Institute, raising over $14,000, and the top individual fundraiser was Brian Gundy. We wish a very special thank you to Global Messengers George Kerson, Jodi Schmeer, Amanda Vito, Taylor Sherman, Joe Best and Patty VanSavage for hosting the Opening Ceremonies, and to the Rainbow Guard for getting everyone in the mood to walk. Also thanks to the teams from training clubs CDS, Heritage Christian Services, Wayne Central, Webster and Yates Greats!

Pedal 4 Medals

A Cycling Vacation to benefit Special Olympics

We would like to personally invite you to participate in the 2008 Pedal 4 Medals, 300 mile Cycling Vacation. The June 25th – 29th 2008 Pedal for Medals Ride is a cyclist’s dream comes true! Where else can anyone who loves to bicycle find the opportunity to spend four glorious days riding his or her bike through some of the most beautiful country anywhere? Start in the beautiful Adirondacks and pedal down to the Finger Lakes. On top of that, riders enjoy three great meals and numerous beverage and snack rest stops each day, excellent hotel accommodations each night, bag transfers between hotels and full SAG support throughout the ride. Riders of all ability levels will enjoy the ride…it’s not a race! This year we are offering a Metric Century if you are unable to commit to a 4 day ride. We have some great prizes, incentives and awards this year, including a new Iron Horse Bike valued at $750 and a full Pedal 4 Medals cycling apparel kit. That’s right; everyone that registers for this ride will have at least one chance to ride home on a new bike!

Roster Policy

**THANKS TO ALL THE COACHES THAT HAVE SUBMITTED ROSTERS**

Your timeliness is greatly appreciated! J

As the summer season gets under way, I feel confident that all of our coaches have had great response in filling out and returning the sports training rosters. If you have not submitted your roster, please do so as soon as possible. This roster should include every athlete that trains in a particular sport and not just the athletes that compete. You should fill out a separate form for each sport that your club participates in although we are only working on Summer Sports at this point.

Please forward them to the office via email to jbell@nyso.org, fax at 585-586-7065 or through snail mail. We appreciate all your help as we sort through and update all of our athletes’ medical and consent forms.

Thanks for all your efforts with this task.

Meds/Consents Binder

The Head Coach of a team/training club must present their Med/Consent binder at the beginning of each event and it should also be present at all training sessions/trips etc. This will be checked at registration on the day of the event and should include valid Meds/Consents for each of the athletes participating. If you do not bring your binder to the event we cannot allow your team/individual to participate.

To be removed from these mailings please respond to this e-mail and include “please remove” in the subject line. Thank you.
