Fall Season Updates

Coaches,

A quick note on progressing to state games:

Our calendar has been designed to give athletes more opportunity to compete. In August you will see that there are a number of local and regional competitions. Teams and Athletes must attend the events that are offered if they wish to go to state games. For example, Softball Teams should attend the Regional Softball event at Cobbs Hill and the Upstate Fall Classic. Similarly, athletes wishing to participate in golf must attend one of the three golf events held between August 24th- 28th and the Regional Golf Event on September 27th. Please note that we will check to ensure that athletes going to states have completed these prerequisites:

Important dates to remember:

Softball – Regional (Aug 23rd) Super Regional (September 20th)

Soccer – Super Regional (September 20th)

Bocce – Super Regional (September 13th)

Golf – Local (Aug 24th-Aug 28th) Regional (September 27th)

Equestrian – Regional (September 6th)

NEW!!  Athlete Response Group (ARG)

Coaches,

After last week’s Program meeting we are in the process of creating an Athlete Response Group (ARG) and we need some of your athletes to participate. The ARG will have an opportunity to provide feedback on a monthly basis based upon a variety of discussion topics. Athletes will receive these topics via e-mail and will be free to respond with their opinions. Athletes concerns and ideas will then be discussed at each of our monthly program committee meetings and actions will be taken accordingly. Basically we want to hear from our athletes about the strengths and weaknesses of the Genesee Region and make sure that we provide the program that they deserve.

If you have athletes that are interested in receiving a monthly e-mail please send us their name and e-mail address. The group can be any size and we encourage as many different voices as possible. Please send the name and e-mail too: rmitchell@nyso.org . The first set of discussion items will be e-mailed out at the end of this month. Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,

Robin Mitchell

Coaches Certification

Firstly, a big thank you to all of the coaches that have contacted us this week to check on their coaching status. There will be more information regarding this topic available in next week’s report after our forthcoming Program meeting.  In the meantime, head coaches should begin to put together a list of every coach/ volunteer that currently operates within their club. When this is complete it should be e-mailed to the office so that we can accurately assess where we are at and ensure that we are up-to-date with our information.

Finally both the Program Report and our event calendar are now available online.
